First Steps..
The first step was meeting Debbie what an inspiration a strong independent woman with a huge heart full of love and support. Second step was joining the group this opened my eyes and gave me huge support and tools to move forward, it was like a family. My next steps are continuing down my path with moving forward with support from Sarah, such an amazing lady so caring and an inspiration. I can't thank Domestic Abuse WA12 enough

Acknowledging my abuse...
Being signposted to DAWA12, was the first step to acknowledging the abuse. Although separated for a period of years, the control remained and I was in a state of turmoil, anger and very dark thoughts.
Speaking to Debbie helped me piece together the previous 10years with support and encouragement. Building up my confidence and strength that was chipped away, because of this process and help I’m now months from graduating from university. Enjoy a very settled life with my children because I was given the information to make sure protection was put in place by Debbie! Overall she really was the light at the end of my very dark tunnel and my gratitude for her is never ending .
You are not a victim for sharing your story. You are a survivor.
Dismissed as a victim...
I was a victim, I didn’t know I was a victim, I dismissed being a victim. For me it was emotional, coercive, financial and mental abuse. I felt alone, everybody around me seemed to be in happy, loving and stable relationships with the other parent to their children.
Not me, I was faced with constant attempts at parent alienation, contradictions to parenting and physical/mental abuse against our children.
Then came the trauma against the children, that was then coupled with malicious allegations to child services against me to negate some of the pressure off what he’d done.
Without the support of the police and domestic abuse wa12, I wouldn’t be here now, surviving.
I have happy children, a stable home and a partner who has taken on my children as if they are his own. I felt lost and alone, now I feel loved and fulfilled. There’s still bumps in the road and for that I always have domestic abuse wa12. But mostly, we survive and carry on with our heads held high.
Trust the process, trust the system, trust your gut and reach out for support. You’re never alone.
